Introducing Growth in Motion

“The journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step,” said Lao Tzu – and that’s exactly what growth looks like. Step by step, often without realising it, we change, adapt, and move forward. Only when we pause and look back do we see how far we’ve come.

At Enterprising and Entrepreneurial Education, we believe growth isn’t always about big leaps or perfect plans. It’s about curiosity, courage, and learning from the process, even when that process feels uncertain.

Some of you might remember this blog as “The Usefulness of Failure”. We explored how setbacks can become catalysts for progress. Today, it evolves into something broader: Growth in Motion – a new blog celebrating the full spectrum of growth at St Andrews.

Growth in Motion is a space where students and staff can reflect on how they are learning, creating, and developing – both personally and professionally. It’s a space for honest stories about discovery, resilience, and those moments when something finally clicks after many small steps forward.

Growth means something different and looks different to everyone. For some, it might be starting a new project or taking a creative risk with their art. For others, it could mean finding direction by doing work experience in a new field, building confidence, or learning to embrace uncertainty. Whatever form it takes, we can learn so much from sharing our journey with each other.

At its heart, Growth in Motion is about curiosity – the willingness to explore, create, and learn from experience. That’s the essence of the entrepreneurial mindset we value and want to continue building here at St Andrews: seeing challenges as opportunities, staying open to new ideas, and embracing change with confidence.

We hope this blog becomes a space for learning, where reading someone else’s journey might inspire your next step. Whether it’s a story about overcoming a setback, launching an idea, or simply learning something new about yourself, we’d love to hear from you.

Everyone has a story to tell, and we want to hear yours! Contribute to the Growth in Motion blog. Your experiences might be exactly what someone else needs to read to take their own first step.
